The Wilmette Lighting name evokes a long and interesting historical journey that began in the fur trading days of the 1820s, along the banks of Lake Michigan just north of Chicago. It is here that French-Canadian fur trader Antoine Ouillmette and his Potawatan bride were granted 1,280 acres by the U.S. government.
