We like that the fan is activated by the motion sensor, but it is designed to run ALL THE TIME, and at a higher speed when activated. In order to avoid the all the time operation (we don't want it on all the time), it will only operate on the lower speed when it does come on. This wasn't clear in the sales description. It's running as an exhaust fan in a bathroom, so since it's a small room the lower speed seems to be sufficient.
