The pleasant surprise is that the light reflects from the ceiling as much as down from the fixture. The characteristic means that there is an even glow throughout the room so shadows are almost non-existent. This also means that the color of the ceiling will impart color to the light. My yellow ceiling provided a light quality with a slightly amber glow.

I wanted max lighting for my bedroom and I am so happy with this choice. Although it is a bit large for the room because of its subdued appearance it doesn't really stand out but blends with the ceiling. Also you can change the bulbs without removing the globe. You can remove the globe for cleaning though by pulling out on one of the spring loaded arms. I did have this installed by my electrician so I don't really know how difficult it might be..There had not been a ceiling light there before. I got him to put a dimmer switch so I can have the full five 75 watt bulbs or turn it down when I don't need as much light. I would give this fixture a full five stars on appearance, quality and functionality. If you are hesitant about size you could do what I did and cut out a paper model the same size. However this was my only concern about this light when I was ordering it and it is not a problem and I have a somewhat small bedroom. This light also comes with a 3 light version but of course you won't get as much light.

We have purchased two of the 5-light and one 3-light in the same style. We will be purchasing another 3-light soon. Waiting for special of some sort.

Completely satisfied with light - it works perfectly in the kitchen. I would like to order another smaller version for the entryway but need to measure first.
