1. I don't know about ease of assembly because my contractor assembled it. 2. I wanted a sleek, modern look AND a lot of light for working over the sink and cooktop. I am thrilled with the result; it exceeded my expectations.\n3. It is on a dimmer so the light can be soft or bright. Even when it is bright (100Watts) it doesn't hurt the eyes.\n4. I believe the stem comes in a couple of different lengths. Whatever it came with is perfect for over my peninsula counter.
